What is brown-throated parakeet?

The brown-throated parakeet, also known as the Lesser Racket-tailed Parrot or Canary-winged Parakeet, is a small parrot species found in South America. They are typically green with a brownish-red throat and a small yellow patch on their wings.

These parakeets are social birds and can often be seen in flocks of up to 20 individuals. They are known for their loud calls and can be quite noisy when in a group.

Brown-throated parakeets are found in a variety of habitats, including forests, savannas, and even urban areas. They are primarily herbivores, feeding on a variety of fruits, seeds, and nuts.

Breeding season for this species typically occurs from November to January, and they mate for life. Females typically lay 3-5 eggs in a clutch, which hatch after about 22 days of incubation.

While brown-throated parakeets are not considered to be endangered, their habitat is threatened by deforestation and urbanization. They are also sometimes captured for the pet trade.
